Welcome to the Calgary Online Store, where you can shop online for products or services available from The City of Calgary's various business units and affiliated agencies. Each category contains a thumbnail (small) picture of the product or service, together with a short (truncated) description of that product or service.
The Calgary Online Store is a corporate initiative administered by the Engineering Services business unit, Corporate Data Access & Marketing Division. Participating business units and affiliates have committed to provide products and services to the public in response to requests for enhanced customer service and in support of corporate initiatives for web based delivery.
Thumbnail images of products, together
with a brief description appear in each category. To see
more information, including Shipping/Handling charges, click
either the "Read more..." link, the small picture
in the category you're interested in, or the product's name.
This will bring you to the product Details page, which contains
important information too large to fit in the thumbnail
category page. Contact information (email, phone and web
site) for individual business units appears on the bottom
left hand corner of each product page.
Orders will be shipped from The City of Calgary via Canada Post, using either first class mail or courier. Shipping charges are stated on the product Details pages and are subject to change. The total Shipping/Handling costs for your order are summarized on the Order Summary screen prior to entering your credit card information. Shipping and Handling charges are subject to GST.
The Calgary Online Store will only ship to Canadian addresses. We will not ship to P.O. Boxes. Some products are subsidized for Calgarians, and as such may not be available for shipping outside of Calgary. This will be indicated on the product's detail page. Such orders will be cancelled and the transaction voided. International Delivery is not offered. If you wish to place an order from outside Canada, please contact the specific business unit for their policies regarding International shipments, NAFTA certificates, etc. Unless otherwise stated on the product's Details screen, we generally ship within three to seven business days. Most orders are shipped much faster though--usually the next business day.
Whenever possible, orders consisting of multiple items are shipped together. Occasionally we may need to ship items in several packages, in which case the packing slip will reflect this.
In some cases products are available at no charge as a public service. However, shipping charges may still apply. See the product's Details page for this information.
Occasionally, due to size or other reasons, we may designate a pickup option for a product at a specific location stated on the product's Details page. Information about the pickup locations can also be found here. Pickup hours will be stated, but if in doubt, contact the respective business unit to confirm hours of operation.
Customers who are ordering items for pickup require a printer and a valid email address as you must bring your copy of the email receipt, together with photo identification, to the pickup location to claim your purchase. NO EXCEPTIONS.
If you ordered Customer Pickup products these must be picked up within two business days of order placement. If your order also contains Currently Available items we endeavor to send these out within three to seven business days. There is no provision to pick up shipable items at the same time as Customer Pickup items. Customers will be billed for the full amount of their order once shipable items have be sent.

Unless otherwise stated, products listed
as "Currently Available" are shipped to you.
If you wish to purchase a product or service on site,
and it is not listed as available for pickup, please
contact the specific business unit as they may have
a physical sales location.
Temporarily Unavailable
Products may be "Temporarily Unavailable"
if they are sold out, unable to ship or if system dependencies
prohibit downloads due to technical reasons. In many
cases the Calgary Online Store is not the sole method
of sale and it may still be possible to purchase the
product or service either in person or through another
method. Contact the specific business unit for further
information. Contact information (email, phone and web
site) for individual business units appears on the bottom
left hand corner of each product's Details page.
Available for Download
Many digital products are available for immediate download. Some physical products may also have a downloadable component, such as a manual or map.
Service Fee
A service fee identifies a service-related product. There may also be a physical component to such products that is mailed to the customer at a later date (such as a permit).
Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) will apply
to most products purchased from The City of Calgary. Certain items
in the Calgary Online Store may be tax exempt, in which case this
will be indicated by the words "Tax Exempt: Yes" on the
Details page for the respective product.
If you are purchasing products or services as a government and do not pay GST, make your purchase for the full amount and use the Contact Us page to email us immediately after your purchase is complete. The Calgary Online Store will then ensure that your credit card is charged for the purchase price, plus applicable Shipping/Handling only. The GST will be deducted from your credit card amount. When emailing us, please include your Order Number and GST Exempt Number. You will receive a confirmation email indicating that the GST has been deducted.
View the Details page for the product or service in order to ensure you are familiar with the item and any associated shipping/handling costs, size, format, etc.
Click the Add to Cart button (below each available item). The Shopping Cart will be displayed showing the item(s) added. If the product or service you have selected requires specific information to be collected, a form will prompt you for this information. At this point, you may cancel or modify your order. If the product does not appear in your shopping cart, see FAQs below.
Click the Remove box to remove items, then click Update. The item will be deleted from your cart and the new cart will be displayed.
Enter the desired number in the Quantity box then click Update to change quantities. The new quantity and subtotal will be displayed.
Click the Continue Shopping button on the Shopping Cart to add more items. You will be returned to the previous category you were browsing. At this point, you may still cancel or modify your order by clicking View Cart in the left hand navigation menu or by using the Back button on your browser.
Click Checkout once the items and quantities you would like to purchase are in your cart. You will then be taken to the Customer Information page and prompted to supply the necessary information to complete your order. At this point, you may still cancel or modify your order by clicking View Cart in the left hand navigation menu, or by using the Back button in your browser.
If any items on your order are to be shipped, you must enter your shipping information. At this point, you may still cancel or modify your order by clicking View Cart in the left hand navigation menu, or by using the Back button in your browser.

If you have selected any licensed products
(see "Licensed Products" below), you will
be prompted to enter into an online licensing agreement.
You will then be asked to read and agree to the License
Agreement by clicking "I Agree."
Only License Products will appear on the License Agreement. All non-license products ordered simultaneously will be displayed on the Order Summary page following the License Agreement. At this point, you may still cancel or modify your order by clicking View Cart in the left hand navigation menu, or by using the Back button in your browser.
An Order Summary screen will appear, summarizing the total costs of your order. At this point, you may still cancel or modify your order by clicking View Cart in the left hand navigation menu, or by using the Back button in your browser.
You will be connected to a secure server and prompted for your credit card information. This is the LAST point you may cancel or modify your order by using the Back button on your browser. Once you submit your credit card information by clicking on the Submit button, your transaction will be complete.

You will see an online receipt with
the words "Transaction Successful." An email
receipt summarizing the details of your order will also
be sent to the address supplied by you. Print and keep
a copy of both the online receipt and email receipt
for your records. If you have purchased items for pick-up,
you must bring the email receipt and photo identification
to the pick-up location in order to claim your purchase.
You will see an Continue button on the bottom of the screen. If you have purchased downloadable products, clicking this button should take you to a download screen where you can obtain your products. Follow the on-screen instructions. In certain instances user-defined browser settings will not permit access to the download screen and you may be returned to the home page for the Calgary Online Store. If you did purchase downloadable products, clicking this button will return you to the home page for the Calgary Online Store.
All customers who order downloadable products will also receive an email from the Calgary Online Store containing a link to the downloads page and instructions for use. If you were unable to download your product or service components using the previous method, click on the link in this email to go directly to the download site. Enter the Order Number from the Subject line of the email, together with your email address to access your downloads.
If you are uncertain whether or not
you downloaded all products and services, you may visit
the link above to verify the status of your download(s).
'Downloaded' means you have already completed the download
to your PC; 'Ready to Download' indicates you have not
yet started or completed the download.
If your order contains physical products to be shipped, the purchase information will be forwarded to the appropriate City of Calgary business unit or affiliate for fulfillment.
For all photographic products listed for sale in the Calgary Online Store, the photo quality shown on screen is intentionally downsampled for display purposes. The photographic resolution of images listed for sale is specified in the product descriptions.
The City of Calgary's online License Agreement makes it possible for you to purchase licensed products through the Calgary Online Store, e.g., electronic data sets, maps, etc. View a sample copy of a License Agreement.
The online License Agreement process is easy to use and, in most cases, you can download the data immediately. You can purchase licensed and non-licensed products on the same order.
No copy of the License Agreement will be sent to you. Please use the browser Print function to print the License Agreement for your records.
After reviewing your order and submitting
your credit card information, the Transaction Successful
page will be displayed. Click "Continue" and you
will be prompted to download the requested files. Any Ready
to Ship products ordered will be sent to you by mail.
The instructions that appear on the Order
Downloads page are platform and browser specific. Depending
on your operating system (Mac, Linux, Unix, etc.), your
browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, etc.) and mouse,
your process may vary. In some cases you will use your right
mouse button, choose "Save File As...", or in
other cases simply left click on the file from the download
screen to start the process.
Contact the Help Desk (see Contact Us) for assistance if you are unable to download a product from the Order Downloads page using a operating system other than Windows.
To view sample pages of products before you buy, you may require the Adobe Acrobat Reader. This software is available free from the Adobe Systems Inc. web site. For information about using PDF files or downloading the Acrobat reader please visit Adobe.
Search for items by either browsing the available categories or use the search tool available from the index to search the catalogue for a specific item.
The Calgary Online Store contains an effective search tool. The advanced search tool allows you to select more than one phrase to look for in a single search, or narrow your search to a specific category.
- Is It Safe To Use My Credit Card?
Yes, using your credit card at The City of Calgary web site is safe because we have partnered with a highly reputable payment vendor who uses encryption technology to secure all information gathered from our customers at the time of purchase/payment. This means that any personal information is safe while it travels over the Internet. The City of Calgary does not see your credit card number. Once your payment has been approved, the payment vendor informs The City of Calgary electronically and we then fulfill your order request. - Will My Personal Information be Safe?
In order for The City of Calgary to establish and maintain relations with customers, to provide ongoing service, to understand customer needs and preferences, and to meet legal and regulatory requirements, The City will collect customer information and may exchange this customer information among its business units. We do not sell or trade your personal information with outside companies and shall only use this personal information for the purposes of providing you the services and products you are interested in. - What if I Have A Problem With My Order?
Lost or Damaged Products. If you receive any product that is damaged, please notify the Calgary Online Store. Once we receive the damaged product, we'll ship you a replacement. Please note that The City of Calgary will not replace products ordered in error or damaged due to misuse or improper use.
Late Delivery. If your product does not arrive in seven business days, please contact us for assistance locating your product. See the Contact Us page for more information.
- What Are My Payment Options?
The City of Calgary accepts VISA and MasterCard. All amounts are in Canadian dollars. Your credit card information will be processed in real time. If you do not wish to order online through the store, please contact the specific business unit noted on the product's Details page for other options.
- Will I Receive A Receipt For My Transaction?
Yes, at the end of your transaction, an Transaction Successful screen is displayed. Additionally, an electronic receipt will be emailed to the address supplied by you with your order. Print and retain both copies for your records.
- Can I Order a Product and Ask You to Ship to Someone Else?
Yes, as long as the shipping address is in Canada. Just enter the address you want your product delivered to in the Shipping Address portion of the Customer Information page.
- Why Can't I Add an Item to my Shopping Cart?
The Calgary Online Store uses session variables, or session-based cookies, on the user's PC to remember items added to your shopping cart. If you are unable to add an item to your cart, or when clicking "Add to Cart" you are returned to the home page of the Calgary Online Store, it likely means you have cookies disabled in your browser settings. In Internet Explorer we recommend adding http://www.calgaryonlinestore.com/ to your "Trusted Sites" zone. This zone must then have the appropriate security and privacy settings to permit acceptance of cookies.
- What if my payment request fails?
If you enter a credit card number that cannot be validated by the payment vendor, your payment request will not be approved. An Online Receipt will not be generated, and you will be alerted of the failure to process the payment. You may return to the order form you filled out to re-enter your credit card information.
The Calgary Online Store sells and licenses products on behalf of many City of Calgary business units and affiliated agencies.
